NSW: Rail Infrastructure Corp to cut staff

SYDNEY, Aug 29 AAP - The Rail Infrastructure Corporation plans to cut staff but willnot make forced redundancies, it said today.

The NSW infrastructure body said 350 positions would be affected, mainly in the Sydneyarea, with the rest in the Newcastle and Wagga Wagga regions.

The cuts would mainly affect administrative and support positions.

However, there would be an increase in spending on maintenance of the NSW rail network, with additional track workers employed where needed, a spokesman said.

The cuts followed a review of staff functions within the organisation.

"This reduction will not affect our operational staffing levels," the spokesman saidin a statement.

"In fact there will be an increase in the numbers of track workers, apprentices and graduates.

"The staff in the affected positions will be offered voluntary redundancies."
